Laminated Glass:

The lamination process begins when 2 sheets of glass are placed on different sides of a thin sheet of poly-vinyl butyral or PVB. These sheets are bonded to form one piece under heat and pressure. An autoclave heats each component as they’re pressed in between rollers. This technique fuses all the three layers together and makes the layers strong and see-through.

Wiper Motors

windshield

A windshield wiper or windscreen wiper is a device used to remove rain, snow, ice and debris from a vehicle's front window. A wiper generally consists of a metal arm; one end pivots, the other end has a long rubber blade attached to it. The arm is powered by a motor, often an electric motor, although pneumatic power is also used for some vehicles. The blade is swung back and forth over the glass, pushing water, other precipitation, or any other impediments to visibility, from its surface.

The wiper motor is a permanent-magnet direct current (DC) one. Wipers may be powered by a variety of means, although most in use today are powered by an electric motor through a series of mechanical components, typically two 4-bar linkages in series or parallel. Inside the motor/gear assembly is an electronic circuit that senses when the wipers are in their down position. The circuit maintains power to the wipers until they are parked at the bottom of the windshield, then cuts the power to the motor.

Power Window/Window Regulator

Power windows or electric windows are automobile windows which can be raised and lowered by pressing a button or switch, as opposed to using a crank handle. Power windows are usually inoperable when the car is not running. This is primarily a security feature.

It would be a simple thing to allow electric power windows to be operable when the ignition is turned off, however it would also make the car much easier to steal. Some systems offer the compromise of leaving power applied to the windows until a passenger door is opened at which time the window power is removed.

Power windows have an electronic motor attached to a worm gear, which is attached to several other gears, to create torque to lift the window. A long arm is attached to a bar at the bottom of the window. One end of the arm slides into a groove as the window rises up.

Windshield Sensors

auto glass repair and replacement

Windshields with small cracks or chips can usually be repaired if they are small enough, helping you avoid replacing the sensor parts. If your windshield has a crack that is larger than a currency bill, then it really should be replaced, along with any technology systems attached to the windshield. Light sensor systems are always available for purchase on the market, but OEM re-installation is the best way to ensure that it will function properly. If installed poorly, the illumination detection may turn the lights on when not needed, thereby draining the battery, or not turning on when it is needed. Sensor failure results in the headlights illuminating during broad daylight when not needing to be on, or the ambient light sensor could have worn out. Whichever the case, either replace the entire windshield, or replace the headlight sensors.

Rain Sensors

A few easy ways to tell if you have a rain sensor system installed in your vehicle. Rain sensors and light sensors usually appear very similar.
Do the wipers start automatically when it’s raining? Is there a square panel mounted on the windshield near the rearview mirror? If you’re looking inside the cabin of your car from the outside, the sensor would be located behind the rearview mirror and you can tell it’s the sensor because a strip of lens or film will appear facing the outside.
Some cars may have one or the other, or both. The rain sensor is also typically adjacent to the light sensor. This system turns the windshield wipers automatically by detecting rain on the windshield.

Rain Sensors Repair and Replacement :

Even with the luxuries afforded by a rain sensing windshield, the more you drive in any weather condition, the more susceptible you are to auto glass damage. While we can repair windshield chips by patching up the damaged area with adhesive, larger damage results in complete windshield replacement. Should you need to replace your windshield or auto glass window, inspect the rain sensor to see if the wiring is intact, as you may need to purchase a new sensor if the wiring is damaged.
